Al-Wājid - The Founder Who Has No Needs

Al-Wājid is the one who does not need anything. The term is the (very) opposite of “the one in want”. Perhaps (one may also say that) the one who lacks that which he does not need would not be called one in want, and that the one who has within his reach that which is not relevant to his essence or the perfection of it would not be called a wājid. Rather Al-Wājid is the one who does not lack any of the things that are necessary for him. Everything necessary for the attributes of divinity and their perfection is present in the existence of God Most High. From this stand-point, therefore, He is a wājid; in fact, He is the absolute Al-Wājid. But any one other than He, even if he is a wājid in the sense that he has some of the attributes of perfection and their causes, yet he (still) is in want and is not a wājid except relatively.
